ASME Approval

(OP)
I have just been asked a question I feel sure I know the answer to but want to be sure!

A pressure vessel is fabricated and is given a ASME U stamp approval. The vessel is then placed in storage for 2-3 years as the project progresses before it is taken to site and installed.

My question is - Is the ASME U stamp still valid after this time of non use or does it have to be re certified by another hydro?

Thanks for any help.

RE: ASME Approval

Haha, are you sure that are you sure, or you want to be sure, to be sure, to be sure.
The nameplate on the vessel remains valid until the vessel is dumped on a scrap heap. The vessel might get re-hydrotested if significant repairs or modifications are made during its service life. The U stamp remains obviously valid for entire service life of the vessel. However, it will have to be complemented by suitable ASME designation stamp for the mentioned modifications or repairs, otherwise it might lose the validity.
Cheers,
