Component position in exploded view after replacement

Component position in exploded view after replacement

Component position in exploded view after replacement

(OP)
Using NX8/Teamcenter 9...

When I replace a component(s) in the structure manager and open in NX, the new component comes in at the correct assembled position, but the exploded view does not update the component to the position the old component was at in the explosion.

I have looked at all customer defaults and could not find anything obvious. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

RE: Component position in exploded view after replacement

Yea, that does happen.
What I do before I replace the component is; in the exploded view I extract the edge curves of the body (that will be replaced) with curves, then when the body is removed its footprint is there.
Insert -> curves from bodies -> extract -> edge curves

Thanks for the reply...gotcha on that...I have no problem finding the position that the new component should be in the explosion, but I am trying to avoid any rework on the explosion completely. There must be a way, but I have not found it.

RE: Component position in exploded view after replacement

Try the same operation using only the interactive NX replace component command (don't use TC's structure manager) to see if you get the same result.

Cowski, the only problem with this method is that I don't have the capability to keep the history of the part being replaced. I have effectivity dates that are controlled in TC and there is no way, to my knowledge, to close one part and add another by effectivity dates in NX.

Thanks guys and please keep the suggestions coming.

RE: Component position in exploded view after replacement

The only option that i am aware of is in the Replace component dialog, "Maintain Relationships".
The option also exist in the customer defaults ( search for "Maintain" and look under Assemblies) which should be active when replacing from TC. If, on the other hand, it affects exploded views, I don't know.

Tomas
