Saving the outside surface of a model

Saving the outside surface of a model

Saving the outside surface of a model

(OP)
Hello to all,
I am working on an assembly model and would like to be able to save just the outside surfaces. This is so we can share The outside 'shell' of the product of the product our customers. I am wondering is there an easy way to do this, such as saving the exterior surfaces or saving it as a .stp file that is hollow when sectioned?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

RE: Saving the outside surface of a model

File/save a copy. Pick Shrinkwrap from the file types. In the dialog box you have many options as to surfaces, solids, level of detail, etc. It can take quite some fiddling with the options to get something you like. I usually make a merged solid at quality level 10 with fill holes checked. Sometimes I have to go in and make some additional features to fill in voids, etc. Then I save the shrinkwrap as a step file to give to customers.
