dear all,

why vendores prefer using screw flooded compressors rather then centrifuagl compressors in refregration process packages. Really we have bad experance in using screw flooded compressores in such packages??

RE: screw flooded comp. vs centrifuagl comp

I would be very interested to hear what problems you have had with flooded screws. What kind of gas are you compressing? Have you confirmed that the oil is compatible with the gas? Are there any gases (like water vapor or butane) in the refrigerant that would dissolve in the oil? These machines are used in this service by the thousands with fantastic results.

The most common answer to your basic question is that a flooded screw is about 8-15% more efficient than a centrifugal (i.e, a screw will use about 8-15% less energy to do the same amount of work depending on the compression ratios). With typical plant margins, that can be a big deal.
