Simulation Test Coupon & Production Test Coupon

Simulation Test Coupon & Production Test Coupon

Simulation Test Coupon & Production Test Coupon

(OP)
Dear All,

Design Data
Code :ASME SEC VIII Div 1
Design Temperature:427 Deg C
Design Pressure:44 Kg/cm2
MDMT :O Deg C
PWHT: Required
Impact test: Required for all pressure part material
ASME Certification: Yes With U designation
MOC:SA 387 GR 12 CL2
Thickness:: Shell:12 mm,Head:18 mm.

1.Please advice whether Simulation test coupon & production impact test coupon (PTC) as per UG-84 (i) is required?
2.Is pressure part includes Fasteners?
3.Is there any flow chart/charts available to decide on PTC for carbon steel & alloy steel material?
4.Is separate post forming heat treatment is required as % extreme fiber elongation exceeds 10%

Thanks & Regards.

RE: Simulation Test Coupon & Production Test Coupon

Nagaprasanna, going to be some "it depends" here.

1)a) per UCS-85 simulated PWHT is required unless material is annealed, per SA-387. See also UG-85(f).
1)b) per UCS-66, Curve A material, MDMT at 12mm is slightly below 0 C, it would appear impact test is not required. Note that governing thickness of head is 12mm, thinner of the two parts joined.

2) Pressure part normally includes any fastener required to retain pressure.

3) Fig UCS-66.2, Appendix L, L-9

4) Yes, if cold formed.

Regards,

Mike
