Pipe Diameter Range Qualified

Pipe Diameter Range Qualified

(OP)
I am trying to read through ASME IX to qualify some welders and have some queries on the ranges qualified;

1. QW-452.3 - This states that the smaller diameter pipes automatically qualify the larger pipes... For example if the welder is qualified on a 1" pipe they are also qualified for 20"? It seems not to make sense to me however I cannot find anything else with conditions to this.

2. Does a pipe groove weld automatically qualify for a plate groove weld... If so where is this stated?

Thanks

RE: Pipe Diameter Range Qualified

1. Yes
2. Yes

RE: Pipe Diameter Range Qualified

1. Yes
2. Test coupon can be of any product form (doesn't have any impact on qualification - product form, not an essential variable), position is important as in which position you need to qualify.

You just need to continue reading Article III of ASME IX and you will start understanding the requirements for performance qualifications.
