ductileûbrittle transition temperature

(OP)
Hi,

Materials is not my area of expertise so I have a question:

Say we have two specimens of A36 steel. The first has a ductile–brittle transition temperature of -20 degrees celcius and the second -10 degrees celcius.

Does this suggest that the first specimen will have a higher toughness at higher temps, say above 0 degrees celcius?

Thanks

RE: ductileûbrittle transition temperature

In general you can't say that a material that has a lower DBTT is going to be necessarily tougher at higher temperatures.

Look how complicated the relationship is between steel variables and DBTT and toughness- you aren't going to get a standard relationship.
