NX/CAE and quad shell elements

NX/CAE and quad shell elements

NX/CAE and quad shell elements

(OP)
Hi all

I would appreciate to have some feedback on the following topic.

It seems to me that NX «loves» to make meshes with triangular element shapes (Tetras og Trias) and tries to avoid Quads and Hexas. For examples, I have seen several times that corners of square sufaces are cut off (Like it could have been filled with a Tria shaped element)

Also surfaces that earlier have been meshed with Quads, are not meshed after remeshing. I get the following message:

Highlighted faces failed to mesh
Try putting a 2d mesh on the faces before solid meshing.

I AM NOT TRYING TO MAKE A SOLID MESH!!! WHY IS NX SO FOCUSED ON 3D MESHING WITH TRIANGULAR ELEMNT SHAPES???? When a 2d mesh in my case and most shell geometry cases will give the best answer? (Small thickness compared to the 2 other dimensions)
Sorry for my exclamations. I get really frustrated.

I would really appreciate some feedback from anyone who have encountered the same problem.

RE: NX/CAE and quad shell elements

Dear Izax1,
Well, is a question to understand the way that runs NX Advanced, the idea is to make possible meshing very complex geometry doing a click, and automatically simplifying geometry during "CAE BODY" creation. The price to pay is that sometimes simply geometry gets afected. But no problem, you can remove geometry abstractions done by NX AdvSim, simply use Reset command to restore abstracted polygon geometry to its original state. Select the polygon geometry on which you want to remove changes implemented by the geometry abstraction commands, or select full bodies.

Reset lets you remove changes you have made to the polygon geometry with the geometry abstraction tools, such as Split Face and Match Edge. When you use Reset, the software returns the portion of the polygon geometry you select to its original state prior to any modifications.

Now you will be able to mesh with QUAD elements for sure!.

Best regards,
Blas.
