Table B4.1b - AISC 360-10

Table B4.1b - AISC 360-10

Table B4.1b - AISC 360-10

(OP)
Hello,

I need help to calculate a limiting slenderness of the web of a member, specifically in the "CASE 16" of Table B4.1b of AISC 360-10.
It is assumed that a Double T-section with simple symmetry should have two possible values "My" (one fiber for the lower end and another value for the top end fiber).

My question here is not whether the lower or higher choose between them.

I think it should be always considering the fiber is in compression, regardless of whether the top or bottom, it's right?

I hope you can help me and indicate why one is chosen.

Greetings.

Also, in that Case (16), i think "hc" and "hp" are both regarding compressed fiber right?

(I don't know how to edit the thread)

RE: Table B4.1b - AISC 360-10

Do you have two flanges (one top and one bottom) in your cross section? Your reference to a "double tee" section makes me think you only have a top (compression) flange. If so, then Case 16 of Table B4.1b is not applicable since it applies only to singly-symmetric I-shaped cross-sections with top and bottom flanges.

Right Hokie, sorry, i'm talking about "singly-symmetric I-shaped"
