SolidWorks and Patents

(OP)
Is there an available template for SolidWorks to generate a Patent drawing? I would love something free but if there is a commercial product I would be interested in it as well. I have looked around and I have a gap that I am trying to resolve to be able to generate drawing for a patent attorney.

Thanks,
Gary

RE: SolidWorks and Patents

Gary,

What do you need to do? I have done many patent drawings with SWX with relative ease. The one thing I was hoping for I finally found and that was to have a phantom image on top of the solid-line one so that an alternative position of the mechanism could be illustrated. I found this in "Alternate Position View", a very clever description. Once I found this the rest was a function of using the right viewing angles, simplifying a lot of the geometry (I added "Patent View" configurations with a lot of the fillets and chamfers suppressed), and selecting appropriate lines to hide to further eliminate clutter.

My attorney said that the line shading for cylinders and such is nice, but not required so we left it out without any hesitation. What else do you need to do?

Since patents are public records - it might be useful to post url to show example.
