WPS & PQR

WPS & PQR

WPS & PQR

(OP)
Dear All,

Self is working in a power plant construction project from purchaser side. The EPC contractor is showing us a WPS & PQR which is established & approved in the past for other company which is not associated with our job anyway . Welding procedure qualification tests have been done outside. Can we accept such WPS/PQR per ASME section IX for our current job...?

Best Regards,

Alok

RE: WPS & PQR

It appears that you want to weld with another Contractor's ASME/Section IX qualified WPS and that Contractor is not associated with your current Work. If so, no you may not use the WPS.

RE: WPS & PQR

ASME is pretty clear on the subject of sharing or using WPS form another company or those qualified by a third party. With the exception of a Standard WPS purchased from the AWS, the practice is not permitted unless both contractors are owned by the same parent company.

Best regards - Al

RE: WPS & PQR

I think Alok is asking if the fabricator can use a previously qualified wps for the new job. Providing that the fabricator doing the work performed/owned the previous qualification then yes they can user it within the allowable range of their qualification. Note that this assumes you have no other criteria over ASME. Whichever is the question alok intended he has his answer!

Nick

RE: WPS & PQR

This may not apply, but ASME B31.1 does allow the use of WPS's qualified by a technically competent group (with some limitations). See paragraph 127.5.3(A).

RE: WPS & PQR

I agree with Nick. Alok, read the wps n pqr carefully. If the contractor owns the documents he's okay. As an ASME CERTIFIED MFR He can use the same for life and for many jobs.
