Camp fire fighting system design

Camp fire fighting system design

Camp fire fighting system design

(OP)
G'day,

I was asked to design a firefighting system for a labor Camp sonsisting of 28 portable cabins (steel structure 12m x 3.5m x 4m. The area of the camp requiring a fire fighting system to be implemented will cover an area of 19081 m2 with a total of 204 cabins consisting of 12 persons each.

The systems proposed are:
 Fire hydrant system ( 2 1/2",2 1/2", 4") spaced out 35m (Q=500 GPM; H=9 bar), taking into consideration that the most remote hydrant is located at 340 m from the pump and requiring a minimum pressure of 4.5 bar with a flow of 500 GPM. (6” black steel fire loop)
 Fire hose reel (1 1/2" hose) system spaced out 35m (Q=150 GPM; H=7 bar), taking into consideration that the most remote hose reel is located at 340 m from the pump and requiring a minimum pressure of 4.5 bar and a flow of 150 GPM (4” black steel fire loop)

I am asking for guidance on whether to use hydrants or fire hosereels and any reference code for calculating the fireflow for a workers camp given that both systems are fed by underground potable water tank and set of pumps.

Apreciate it
Marc
