We are currently spotwelding two galvanneal 2mm thick sheetmetal brackets. We are experienceing bad welds. The customer is recieving product that looks ok but the brackets are falling apart. In addition the spot welding tips have to be dressed after every 25 welds and the they are also mushrooming. What kind of settings should we use? What kind of weld tip material should we use to eliminate the mushrooming and the dressing? Should we be use spotwelding for this material or should we use a different method such as toggle locking?

RE: spotwelding galvanneal

Galvanneal is used extensively in the automotive industry for body panels and it is joined by spot welding.
Try increasing amperage and reducing weld time eg 12000 amps and reduced cycles to 7 to 9.
We use Cr Copper alloy electodes though if you can put up with the toxicity copper berylium electrodes are longer lasting.
