API 1104 Material Grouping for Procedure Qualification.

(OP)
Hi,

With regards to API-1104 section: 5.4.2.2

I am currently using a welding procedure specification which states piping material X70 to X52.
When I look at the procedure qualification record from which the WPS was derived it states piping material X65 to X65.
Can you please inform if this is acceptable.

RE: API 1104 Material Grouping for Procedure Qualification.

Short answer is no; the PQR needs to be made on X65.

Your only possible "out" would be if the X65 PQR material was dual stensiled as X65/X70 (which is actually quite possible). In that case, you should be ok, but you will have to revise your PQR to show the test material was dual rated. You should include the MTR in the PQR should someone like PHMSA question this rationale.
