Time history analysis using substructure

Time history analysis using substructure

Time history analysis using substructure

(OP)
Hello,

I'm doing a research on distributed base isolation system for tall buildings. I used substructures to model individual story. I need now to assemble all the substructures together to erect my buildings. Each substructure is connected to the adjacent ones with springs and dashpots. I would like to define, in addition, a contact between each story to prevent overlap. I have tried to follow "34.3.9 Contact modelling if substructures are present" in the 6.11 manual user. But I'm uncertain on the method to follow, I have tried different techniques. The only one that seems to work is to define a new shell part with a surface section definition and tied it to the substructure surface with the retained nodes. Is it the only way to do it, or would you recommend me a better way?
I'm also not able to get a time history output. At the main model level (the one with the substructures assembled), I run a dynamic implicit step and ask for each substructure a field output request at each time increment. I also extract the 6 first eigenmodes in the substructure creation model. I get the variables only at the last increment (step time = 1). Would you have any idea on how fix that problem?

Thanks in advance,

Vincent

Ok I figured out... just have to specify to combine ALL the frame in the substructurecombine plugs-in.

RE: Time history analysis using substructure

I think this is a post which was 2-3 months old. I face very similar problem to what Sanvin faced. But I am really not sure what is the solution for that. It seems "34.3.9 Contact modeling if substructures are present" has the answer but I would like to know of anyone has already solved the problem already.

Thank you very much.
