Recommended pump for permanganate solution (J-88L)

Recommended pump for permanganate solution (J-88L)

(OP)
Howdy all,

We have a cleaning process for metals that uses CEE BEE's J-88L alkaline/permanganate solution per Pratt and Whitney SPOP 213 and GE SPM 70-21-10. We use a Serfilco ECTFE-T pump and have to replace the pump head every year because of the effects of the solution. I was wondering if there is a pump which would have more longevity then what we're using. We generally keep this tank around 190°F but could go as high as 200°F per the spec. Per the MSDS sheet J-88L is a sodium hydroxide/sodium permanganate solution, and I'm not sure whether pumps designed for potassium permanganate would work well.

Thanks,

-Kirby

RE: Recommended pump for permanganate solution (J-88L)

Is it perhaps the temperature that plays the important role here? My first choice would be a metal pump head. Not sure if 316SS will work with the chemical but ask Serfilco.

RE: Recommended pump for permanganate solution (J-88L)

For many years I pumped both caustic soda (Sodium Hydroxide) and Potassium Permanganate solution around packed towers, while processing compressed gases to remove such impurities as CO2 and organic compounds. All I ever used were Cast Iron centrifugal pumps (both casing and impeller) and I never had any corrosion or erosion problems. I would not use stainless steel alloys.

And that is exactly what I would recommend in this applications
