How to name surfaces in NX?

How to name surfaces in NX?

How to name surfaces in NX?

(OP)
Hello,

When working with external CFD packges, it's often useful to have some of the surfaces in the CAD model be named. How can I give a surface in NX a name?

Thanks!

RE: How to name surfaces in NX?

Just select the Surface object, press MB3, select the 'Properties' option and in the 'General' tab you can assign a name to the selected object. Note that if you're selecting a Surface make sure that you're actually selecting the Surface object and not just the face since you can also assign a name to faces. It's best to use 'QuickPick' to make sure that you've actually selected the surface. Of course, you could have also set your 'Selection Filter' to 'Sheet Body' and that would have worked as well as a means of making sure that you're only selecting Surface objects.

Also note that you can select mutiple objects and use the index option to assign indexed names, such as selecting 10 surfaces and setting the index to start at '1' and assigning a name like 'surf-' you'll end-up with the Surfces having the names 'SURF-1', 'SURF-2', 'SURF-3,...,'SURF-10' (note that no matter what you type-in as a name, it will be converted to all upper-case).

Ah, I see. Though if I'm using this naming scheme on a solid I switch it to face.

Thanks.

RE: How to name surfaces in NX?

Yes, that's correct.
