Activity Coefficients and Fugacities
Activity Coefficients and Fugacities
(OP)
Hi everyone. I am currently a third year Chemical Engineering student in Australia. I am just wanting to get your views of methods to calculate fugacities and activity coefficients in gases and liquids. We are estimating the activity coefficients using UNIQUAC method. Does anyone have any comments/suggestions regarding this? And in particular, what would be the method you would most likely be to use in industry? We are investigation usage of;
(1)van Laar Equation
(2) Margules Equation,
(3) Scatchard-Hamer Equation
(4) Wilson’s E27/10/02quation
(5) NRTL Equation
(6) UNIQUAC Equation
Thanks for the insight!

The equations toward the bottom of the list are more complex but would have wider application. In industry, most would use the equation that is simplest that adequately fits the data. In many cases, the simpler equations (like Margules) will work fine.
