NX Display Parent tool

NX Display Parent tool

NX Display Parent tool

(OP)
Hello all,

I've made a simple dll tool to use instead of the rather cumbersome and unhelpful Display Parent command within NX. Since the tool has been extremely helpful to me, I'm making it available here for everyone to use. Take a look at the attached preview image to see what it looks like.

ADVANTAGES:
- the tool can be placed on a toolbar or used with mouse gestures for quick access (icon is included)
- provides information about the immediate parents
- provides information about the highest level parents
- parent list is ranked according to the node level of each component
- customizable font and popup size
- looks better

HOW TO INSTALL:
download the attached "NXDisplayParent_v1_0.rar" and extract
place the dll and bmp file anywhere convenient
in NX: Customize ...> New User Command. With the new button, set Default style. Edit Action: Type: NXOpen, browse to the dll file.
Change button image > image name. browse to the bmp file.
When using the tool, right click inside the popup window to access the menu.

Anyway, let me know how it goes or if you have any suggestions. This is a way for me to give a little something back to the forum that has helped me so much.

NOTE: this tool does not alter any parts.

RE: NX Display Parent tool

Hi..

Followed your instructions and installed the tool.
Seems to be working as in "it will activate". But I'm getting no results. Window is telling me "no parent(s)"
I'm working in a Teamcenter environment.

Hi nutace, the tool will show "No parent(s)" when the current 'displayed part' is the top level component, therefore it will have no parents. Have you tried opening a sub-assembly or child part? Then it will show the parents.

However, I've not tested the tool in a Teamcenter environment. If you are able to, try using the tool outside of Teamcenter and report back if there is any difference in how it behaves.

RE: NX Display Parent tool

Hi...

I tried the tool in different states. Component as displayed part, as work part, no difference.
Tried it in Native mode as well. There it seems to be working fine.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately that confirms it doesn't work in Teamcenter.

RE: NX Display Parent tool

I report that it is working flawlessly in NX 8.0 and WinXP .
Thank you so much. smile
