Hydro testing

(OP)
Currently setting up to Hydro test new boiler ASME Sec 1 & Boiler external piping (B31.1) field assembly only. Question I have is there any allowance in B31.1 for untested bolt up joints. Our construction department has one flanged joint that is extremely difficult to include in the initial test.

RE: Hydro testing

A leak test is an option after final installation.
137.3.2 Nonboiler External Piping. All nonboiler
external piping shall be hydrostatically tested in accordance
with para. 137.4. As an alternative, when specified
by the owner, the piping may be leak tested in accordance
with para. 137.5, 137.6, or 137.7.

Metengar the Boilers are new this is the actual code test before the P3A signature. We have no non boiler external.

RE: Hydro testing

Ok. In this case, the BEP falls under Section I administratively, and a code hydrostatic test is required by Section I.
