RE: pressure vessel estimating

I suggest that you develop your own EXCEL spreadsheet.... use a money/weight estimate method

Configure the spreadsheet to do the following:

- Estimate wall thicknesses using ASME VIII equations in your choice of materials
- Calculate bare-vessel weight, using the head choice an corrosion allowance you want
- Add on weights for your choice of nozzles, manways etc
- Calculate a total estimated weight
- Estimate a cost based on a recent quote ( use $ per lb)
- Add 15% to the cost.... add transportation cost

If you have older cost estimates, they can be very useful

As of today, in the USA, I am currently seeing carbon steel costs at $6.00-$8.00 and stainless at about $7.00 to $11.00 per pound

Let us know about your final selection/choice......

MJCronin,
It has been several years since I purchased any Stainless Steel, but at that time the minimum on SS was around twice CS max. Have the relative prices tended to come together in the last few years?

Older estimates can be very useful on the hardware, however, cost of manpower may not be.
