Selection of the material
Selection of the material
(OP)
Dear All,
I would like to ask you kindly for the advice in the material selection for the jig that is under construction. The requirements for the material are as follows:
- it has to be magnetic (the more the better),
- non-corrosive,
- machinable (milling operation),
- low-abrasive (this requirement could be fulfilled by covering working surfaces of the jig with protection film).
The jig will not be loaded with significant force. It will be working in ~20C temperature.
I hope for your help.
Thank you.
Regards,
Hubert

@1gibson - material would need be attracted by magnet (not magnetic itself).
@EdStainless - The jig will not be loaded with any significant force. It will be working in room temperature (~20degC). From material strength point of view only the regular mild steel would do as the material for the jig. The jig overall size will be approx. 300mm x 100mm x 60mm.
@arunmrao - thank you for your answer and advice :).
