Section VIII: No. of HAZ impact tests per a procedure qualification
Section VIII: No. of HAZ impact tests per a procedure qualification
(OP)
UCS-67 states that the welding procedure qualification shall include impact tests of the weld metal and HAZs in accordance with UG-84. UG-84 states each set of HAZ impact specimens shall be taken across the weld...(UG-84(g)(2)). If I am joining a P1, Gr. 1 to a P1, Gr. 2, then two sets of impacts tests are to taken from each HAZ. If I am joining a P1, Gr. 2 to a P1, Gr. 2, is only one set of HAZ impact tests required?

RE: Section VIII: No. of HAZ impact tests per a procedure qualification
Purpose of impact testing both HAZs in different P#G# is to achieve values from each affected "zone" of the weldments....in your case P1G1 HAZ, P1G2 HAZ, and diluted weld metal. A P1G1 to P1G1 weld should be similar on each side of the weld, with minor variances due to welders individual weld bead parameters.
