Hello.

I want to know which one is the most interesting equipment for the following industrial process, please:

We need to heat a 6000 liters water tank up to 90ºC (194ºF).

200 kg pieces are introduced to the tank (with thermal insulation) for a degreasing process.

The temperature must be maintained for 8 hours a day.

Available only diesel oil as fuel.

What is the specific heat of the object to be cleaned?

How many will be cleaned per hour?

What is the standby loss of the tank?

Need way more information.

- The specific heat of the object is 460 J/(Kg ºK)
- The number of pieces is 4.6 per h.
- The standby loss of the tank is 339 w.

Water by itself isn't a particularly good degreaser, and if you keep dumping greasy parts into the same tank of water pretty soon it becomes a greasing tank rather than a degreasing tank. So you need to think about skimmers and make-up water and will you use some chemical besides just water.

If you will be using a chemical it will possibly be caustic or acidic. So you need to decide if your heater will need to be resistant to the chemical, or if you will use an intermediate heat exchanger or you'll just have a big diesel "stove" below your tank.

And you need to think about how quickly you need the tank up to temperature at the start of the working day, and if you ever completely drain it and fill with fresh solution.

And you need to think about how constant you need to hold the temperature when new parts are introduced. And that means that you need to know the temperature of the parts before they go into the tank.

And you need to think about health, safety and environmental regulations.

From there you need to think about if you want to attempt to cobble together a system from individual components, or purchase a complete system from an experienced supplier.

Based on your first two posts I would recommend the latter.

The complete process is a superficial treatment line where the steel pieces are passed through different liquid solutions for improving their finish. The tank that we are talking about is the final step in the process and the pieces are washed with hot water. Currently it has a very efficient heat exchanger.

What we need to do is build a new tank an a heat exchanger which heat the water itself.

The question I ask in the forum is that one, What kind of heat exchanger do you recommend for that process?

The tank generate fat and it could be interesting treat it and prevent the fouling in the heat exchanger.

How about use steam tracing on the tank to maintain the water temperature, use a diesel-fired boiler to supply the steam. when the process is complete, drain the grease laden water into a settling tank/grease trap to let it cool. the water can be drained off the bottom and/or grease skimmed off the top. Then you have 2 separate systems: steam and process water.

Have you tried using a plate heat exchanger?
It works like a shell and tube, but is very efficient in maintaining the temperature of flowing liquid or liquid tanks.
If possible, i could explain more if you allow me to.

i think plate heat exchanger is quite good for your case, as you have different flowing liquids. And plate heat exchanger allows different flowing liquids to flow without mixing and yet being efficient in heat transfer.
