CERT - certificate

CERT - certificate

CERT - certificate

(OP)
Wednesday I start my Citizen's Emergency Response Training, mostly because I qualified and have the free time. It's 2 months of fairly intensive training, about 80 hrs.

Is this something I should add to a resume along with other certifications like OSHA safety training and licensure? It's not like I'm looking to get a job as an ENT or something.

If you are offended by the things I say, imagine the stuff I hold back.

RE: CERT - certificate

Once you've completed the training, sure, put it on your resume.

But in the meantime, network with the other trainees, and maybe you'll find work without needing a new resume.

I'll be in class with a bunch of young firefighters. I am already struggling to keep my networking thoughts on work.

RE: CERT - certificate

Honestly, if you're a PE I would really think twice about CERT if it's anything like the California EMA certification I did a few years ago while I had the free time. Basically I learned that as a PE, you become a lawsuit target because of the loopholes in the Volunteer Protection Act. You go out to these horrible conditions, getting paid nothing, to take on liability...seemed like the whole system was set up more for non-PE's. The presenter himself was a PE who said they were lobbying to change the laws to offer some protection; however, I'm not sure anything has changed as of yet.

MainMan10, the liability issue is one of my questions that I have written down for tomorrow's orientation. I'll let you know what they say, and whether I think the information is of any value.
