How to split a "ring"?

How to split a "ring"?

How to split a "ring"?

(OP)
Hello,

Is it possible to split a ring (extruded solid with a thickness) into two solids? See attached image where the split is supposed to be. The Split Body tool gives the message "The tool and target do not form a complete intersection". Any ideas about the "proper way" to accomplish this task?

PS: the split tool works if the two lines intersect the center of the ring, however in this case the lines are supposed to be parallel.
