Siesmic Retrofit of Unreinforced Masony brick building (NZ)

Hi All

I'm working on siesmic retrofit for an unreinforced masonry brick church with very high pitch roof. The roof structure is made of arched shaped trusses and rafters. the trusses land on unreinforced brick columns. I'm thinking of jacking the roof and replacing the brick columns with cantilever steel columns. we are also conisdering removing existing heavy roof tiles and replacing with lighter roofing material to reduce siesmic mass of the structure.

I would like to get other openions on this, also how the seismic loads from brick walls can be transferred to cantilever columns?

the walls are made of two leaves bricks with a 50-60mm gap in between.

Thanks
