Dear all,
I am working in a power plant construction project. As per radiography requirement stated in technical specification 10% radiography to be taken for Water wall panel joints. My problem is how to select joints for radiography..? shall I offer 10 % of total joints welded so far or shall I go 10 % of welder wise joint made per day per shift ..?
Kindly suggest.

RE: Radigarphy

Welder wise approach is much better. Also segregate the field and shop joints. Make them equal or focus more on field welds.

RE: Radigarphy

Shop tube butt welds, if even present in waterwall panels, would have been volumetrically examined in the shop and subjected to hydrostatic testing for the panel. Focus instead on the field welds because this is the purpose of the field RT and focus on 10% of the weld joints per welder.

You realize that RT is not required for boiler tubing so this is really an exercise to ensure quality for each welder.

RE: Radigarphy

Adding to metengr; if not specified in your Contract specifications, you need to have agreement as to acceptance criteria as well (the acceptance criteria defined in ASME I is not a requirement of ASME I for the subject welds). Note that the radiographs will more than likely not meet geometrical unsharpness rewuirements of ASME I and the near source wall will be magnified on the film.
