question about rack and pinion

question about rack and pinion

question about rack and pinion

(OP)
I finally created a rack and pinion in a sub assy, but it does not work in the top assy. I set the sub assy to flexible. Does anyone know if this should work, or must the rack and pinion be created in the top assy only?

thanks

RE: question about rack and pinion

The mates used in the top level assy are probably restricting the sub-assy's flexibility.

RE: question about rack and pinion

In big models, nesting flexible sub assemblies will often result in flexible subs that don't solve well and don't drag. Do you get a "The selected component is fixed. It cannot be moved" tooltip or does it just not move?
