Weld Moment of Inertia

Weld Moment of Inertia

Weld Moment of Inertia

(OP)

Dear All,
Can anyone tell how to calculate weld MOI

I used UC 203x203x86 and weld thick as 4/16 inch

Software calculates I as 8051273142 mm4

But irrespective of weld thickness It shows the same value for UC 203x203x86

Can anyone tell how to calculate Weld Moment of Inertia

Thanks In advance

RE: Weld Moment of Inertia

I always go to Blodget for questions like this. Per his book "design of welded structures" p 7.4-7, section modulus for a c shaped weld in strong axis bending is bd+dd/6.
Weld force is then M/S and can be used to check the weld size.
