Wind Load. Open Buildings. Wall.

Wind Load. Open Buildings. Wall.

Wind Load. Open Buildings. Wall.

(OP)
How do I compute for the wind load for the remaining walls for an open building? I am doing a Gable type structure with a small covering at the top part of the wall (connected to the roof eave).

ASCE 7-05 states that it is an open buiding if area of opening is 80% the gross area of wall.

But I cant find in any of the figures in the code on what to use to the remaining 20%?

Need your help guys and thanks in advance.

RE: Wind Load. Open Buildings. Wall.

I think you should treat it as a sign or hoarding or freestanding wall for the part of the wall which is clad and not less than 10psf (0.5kPa) and 10psf for the rest of the wall elevation which is open.

RE: Wind Load. Open Buildings. Wall.

ASCE makes one comment in Section 27.4.3 (ASCE7-10) that for low sloped roofs containing fascia panels, the fascia panel should be treated as an "inverted parapet". A similar comment for components and cladding does not exist, but it would probably be reasonable to follow the same rule.

I only have the ASCE 7-05 with me and it says...

For free roofs with an angle of plane of roof from horizontal
0 less than or equal to 5deg and containing fascia panels, the fascia
panel shall be considered an inverted parapet. The contribution
of loads on the fascia to the MWFRS loads shall be determined
using Section 6.5.12.2.4 with qp equal to qh.

What if the angle is greater than 5deg?

Yeah if there is no other option I might consider it as a sign or free standing wall.
