Filler Selection

(OP)
Dear All,
I am working in a power plant construction project. As per approved WPS we are using ER-80SB2 & ER-90SB3 respectively for SA335GRP11 & SA335GRP22 Joints. Now we have got a joint with dissimilar material grade one part is SA335GRP11 & another part is SA 335GRP22.What shall be the filler of such joints . Which code section to be referred for this selection..?

Regards

RE: Filler Selection

tekari123,
In this case, you may go either for ER80S-B2 or ER90S-B3. My recommendation go for ER80S-B2.
In dissimilar welding within carbon and low alloy steel groups, consumable selection suiting to less alloyed material works fine. Pre-heat and post weld heat treatment should be followed for the one demanding higher temperature.

Code doesn't provide guidelines on consumable selection.

RE: Filler Selection

Correct, either filler metal 1.25% Cr - 1/2Mo (B2) or 2.25% Cr - 1% Mo (B3) can be used for the stated base materials. You don't mention pipe thickness or diameter for the above base materials so I have no preference.
