Thermal clamping of a ring: clamping force
Thermal clamping of a ring: clamping force
(OP)
Hi,
I want to machine the inside of a copper ring. Therefore, I want to clamp the ring (diameter 25 mm, length 6 mm) around its outside by making aluminium clamping part. By heating the aluminium clamping part, assembling the ring in the clamp and cool down, both are fixed. My question is: how can I calculate the clamping force if the outer diameter of the ring is slightly bigger than the inside diameter of the aluminium clamp?
Thanks

Try this link and example 8.28 once you have the stress values you can calculate the force

Your welcome

However, I found it here: http://www.faculty.fairfield.edu/wdornfeld/ME311/P...

I think you might find that both analysis will lead to the same conclusion when you apply the negative temperature gradient i.e. cooling.
