Brush Plating Standard for 17-4PH Repair Bushings

Brush Plating Standard for 17-4PH Repair Bushings

Does anyone know the recommended standard for brush plating cadmium on 17-4PH repair bushings?

RE: Brush Plating Standard for 17-4PH Repair Bushings

MS1977

General reference cadmium plating bath processes [for thickness definition, pre-plating surface prep, post plating conversion coatings, etc]: AMS-QQ-P-416 Plating, Cadmium (Electrodeposited) or MIL-STD-870 CADMIUM PLATING, LOW EMBRITTLEMENT, ELECTRODEPOSITION.

Classic brush plating: MIL-STD-865 SELECTIVE, BRUSH PLATING, ELECTRO-DESPOSITION
NOTE. IF hydrogen embrittlement [HE] is a problem [IE: 17-4PH heat treatments ~H950, H925 and H900] then use low HE process solutions.

Precision brush plating process
SAE AMS2451 Plating, Brush General Requirements + AMS2451/4 Plating, Brush, Cadmium Corrosion Protective, Low Hydrogen Embrittlement [for all levels of heat treatment]**

**Note: IF feasible, may want to consider using Low HE zinc-nickel plating per [AMS2417+] AMS2451/9 Plating, Brush, Zinc-Nickel Low Hydrogen Embrittlement.

I believe USAF T.O. 42C2-1-7 has brush plating data.

Also, almost every aerospace company has it's own brush ["stylus"] plating specs [cadmium, nickel, tin, zinc, etc] .

NOTE.
Pre and Post plating [hydrogen embrittlement or stress] relief bakes may be required per AMS2459/11 Stress Relief of Steel Parts and AMS2759/9 Hydrogen Embrittlement Relief (Baking) of Steel Parts. Most LA steels and certain PH CRES alloys that have been heat treated to very high strength levels may/may-not require pre/post plating bakes [NOTE: these relief bake may/may-not be defined in plating specs... better safe than sorry].

Thank you very much wktaylor. We're working with a vendor on this to potentially purchase the equipment.

Respectfully,
