Drawing views on layers?

Drawing views on layers?

Drawing views on layers?

(OP)
Is it possible to create a drawing view on a layer that I can hide or show to reflect different configurations of similar parts for manufacturing?

I am generating multi-sheet drawings for manufacturing and would like to be able to easily use 1 .slddrw file. As long as the only changes are the part number, description, material, etc... there are no problems in simply changing configurations and updating the drawing. When a part has a geometry change the dimensions are not able to update. I now have to delete the dimension(s) and replace them.

I would like to find a way to create drawing views of my "base" part on a layer, then copy the drawing view(s) to another layer. I would then change configurations and replace dimensions as necessary. I would then turn layers on or off to see the desired drawing in a single file.

RE: Drawing views on layers?

I do not think what you are asking is possible in SolidWorks.  However you could create multiple views showing the differnt configs and then right click in the views that you do not want to show and pick Hide View.
