Vibration and pipe stress

Vibration and pipe stress

Vibration and pipe stress

(OP)
Hi

I have a pipe that is vibrating up and down mid span between supports. There is two phase flow in the pipe which is exciting the natural frequency. There is a constant force support mid span.
If we measure the displacement can I calculate the stress in the pipe?
I am thinking I can model the displacement in auto pipe to work out the cyclic stress the vibration is putting in the pipe. Would this work or are we missing something?

Thanks
Kevin

RE: Vibration and pipe stress

The "constant force" support is not working. A dynamic vibration is indicative of a cyclic load. The constant load is not set properly. You need to tighten up on it.

Download beam formulas, find your load case (point load on simply supported beam?) and knowing your deflection, solve for the moment then the bending stress M*c/I.

You should then have a look at the cyclic stress reduction factors.

Independent events are seldomly independent.

RE: Vibration and pipe stress

[Apparently available for a paltry £215.00 (plus corrective measures) - or employ more formidable piping and supports upfront?]
