Can anybody advise a good product and website to supply the information of explosion proof compressor - hermetic or semi-hermetic  type for air-conditioning as a condenser is  located at the Hazardous area, certified NEC st'd. CL1 Div2 Group C&D.

Any useful recommendations will be very much welcome.

Thanks and regards,
OMIME

RE: Explosion proof compressor

I don't know of any explosion proof compressors off-hand.  You might want to check out Danfoss' line of household compressors at http://www.danfoss.com/compressors/.  Their USA number is (410) 931-8250.

I hope this helps.

RE: Explosion proof compressor

You can use a belt drive reciprocating compressor in combination with an explosion proof motor.

RE: Explosion proof compressor

Ho Omime,

Look over your NEC really well before you go buying an explosionproof motor.  In Div 2 areas, you might find that all you need to do is locate the controls that create sparks, arcs, and high temperature surfaces in another area that is safe.  All you might need at the compressor location is an explosionproof disconnect switch.  A TEFC motor might do, or even an open drip-proof design.

I'd read it for you and give you an opinion, but I'm kinda jammed today.  It's in 500, look under Equipment for Division 2 locations.
