Chemical compatibility of hydrocloride acid

Chemical compatibility of hydrocloride acid

Chemical compatibility of hydrocloride acid

Understand ss316 or any metals is not suitable to handle acid,

Please advise any suitable pump materials that could resist this hydrochloride acid

Other chemical would be sulfuric acid

RE: Chemical compatibility of hydrocloride acid

Polypropylene (at lower concentrations), PVDF, PTFE.

Otherwise you have choice of zirconium only if its free of oxidising ions such as cupric/ ferric and titanium only if contains such oxidising ions. Superduplex can handle low concentrations like 6%.

RE: Chemical compatibility of hydrocloride acid

There are entire books on this subject.
The concentration, temperature, impurities, and mechanical stresses must all be taken into account.
Design for acid service is not for amateurs.

Is alloy 20 could handle acidic such as hydrochloride, design tperature is 80 degree C where operating temp is ambience, the specific gravity is 1.2

Endstainless:

Impurities, mechanical stress, temp, concentration does it directly proportional to corrosiveness of the casing material ?

RE: Chemical compatibility of hydrocloride acid

Forget about alloy 20 with hot hydrochloric acid.

Concentrated HCl acid at 80 C is best handled in Teflon-lined equipment. If you must use metals, your choices are Hastelloy B, zirconium or tantalum. Both HB and zirc are only resistant if there are no oxidizing ions like Fe+3 present. There are no other choices I'm aware of.

Be aware also that the velocities in pumps are high, so erosion-corrosion can be an issue. You're far safer with the lined construction.
