Compare fatigue of steel and titanium
Compare fatigue of steel and titanium
(OP)
Hi, I'm looking for a reference that compares the fatigue properties of steel (mild to medium strength) to titanium (Ti-6Al-4V ideally). I'm having some difficulty finding directly comparable data.
Thanks!
Thanks!

RE: Compare fatigue of steel and titanium
Do you have good understanding of fatigue- you are going to have to specify the standard of the alloy that you want to compare to come close.

RE: Compare fatigue of steel and titanium
One thing will be apparent right away is that the steel has a fatigue limit, a stress level below which it will never fail. This isn't true for Ti, the line continues to drop with additional cycles.
This is one reason why stainless steel is used for hydraulic lines on aircraft in areas where they can't be serviced, they can be designed with infinite life.
