A problem I cannot understand - Revolved cut.

A problem I cannot understand - Revolved cut.

A problem I cannot understand - Revolved cut.

Hello.
I made a model of a link that is supposed to be a section of a chain. This part will be printed on the 3D printer.

I tried to make a revolved cut for a ball joint where another type of link will connect to this link.
(There will be links with balls on both ends and links that with receptacles for those balls.)

Something doesn't work out. Solidworks 2013 even generates me a nice rendering of how the cut will look like but than it gives an error message.

Those images are for the post above and they depict a spherical cutout inside a cylindrical cutout that I tried to make.

Thank you.

Well, judging by the error message, your sketch is wrong. I suspect you're sketch is half a sphere that you're then revolving. Try making it something less than half and see if that works.

I found an answer.
I cannot revolve a full circle 360 degrees. I can only revolve it 180 degrees so it wont pass over itself.

Still doesn't work. Sorry. It worked on other model I tried to play with.

RE: A problem I cannot understand - Revolved cut.

Can you post the model for a closer look?

Read the error message and fix the sketch accordingly! It is "open, self-intersecting or intersects the centerline". Try a semicircle and make the diameter the axis and rotate 360 (On the axis is not "intersecting").

When errors like that show up, I always turn to the "Check Sketch for Feature" tool.
