Shrinkwrapped assembly exports to AutoCAD

Shrinkwrapped assembly exports to AutoCAD

Shrinkwrapped assembly exports to AutoCAD

(OP)
We currently export Pro/E 2001 assembly models for documentation done in AutoCAD.

To keep file sizes low, we've shrinkwrapped the assembly models before the export.  I realize that the SW part represents the outer skin only...that's a good thing, we're just interested in assigning finish codes to the outer surfaces once we get the model into AutoCAD.

Here's my question:

Can I somehow maintain the separation of component parts in the exported AutoCAD-friendly file?  The shrinkwrapped SW part file has each component as a feature...but we lose this intelligence as soon as we export the model.  If I could somehow transfer this intelligence to the exported part (maybe using layers) I'd be very happy.

Keep in mind, these assemblies have many components, so I need something that works without alot of manual effort.  I was wishing there is some way to put each feature on its own layer with a mapkey of some sort prior to the export.

Thank you for your help...
