Thickness calc in Bedinar

Thickness calc in Bedinar

(OP)

Hi There,

Sorry if my question is so basic. actually i was reading Bedinar handbook when I found that in 4.8. Illustrative example, Sa is devided by 4 before using it in calculation. Can you let me know where is that factor of 4 coming from?

Thank you

RE: Thickness calc in Bedinar

Are you referring to how the allowable stress for SA-516-55 was derived? i.e. Sa = 55000/4 = 13750 psi

55000 psi is the minimum tensile strength for SA-516-55
4 was the design factor back in the old days. I think it was prior to the 1999 Addenda of the Code???, not so sure about the edition or addenda where the design factor changed from 4 to 3.5

yes doct9960, I mean that "4". I don't if we still should use it or not, though we use PVElite these days , but I prefer to have good knowledge of hand calcs.
