Instruments & Energy Efficiency

(OP)
Hi all,

Are there any specifications to be taken into consideration, when choosing instruments, to improve energy efficiency?

Thanks.

RE: Instruments & Energy Efficiency

The one I can think of is instrument air consumption.

Most valve positioners bleed instrument air on a continuous basis. A plant with a couple hundred modulating valves uses a lot of instrument air just holding the current position. The Siemens PS2 positioner consumes no air when it is idle or holding its position, it consumes air only when it is changing position.

The 0.5 watt of electrical power that a loop powered transmitter consumes (at 20mA) is inconsequential in the bigger scheme of things.
