When is a helium leak test supposed to be done per asme sect VIII before or after expanding?

A helium leak test is not required per Section VIII Div 1. However, there are often customer requirements that exceed those listed in the code. For a helium leak test of a tube to tubesheet joint, if the tubes are seal welded then expanded, it is possible to test the seal weld prior to expanding or after. Ensure that you have the specific acceptance criteria before beginning the test.
