Shaft Locking Device

Shaft Locking Device

Shaft Locking Device

(OP)
I am currently designing a lifting jig to lift a conical shaped piece of ceramic vertically. It will be lifted so that the small end is on top. The jig I am designing will be inserted through the small end, and then have shafts that extend to grip the ceramic. What I need to find is the clamping device for the shafts. I have looked at plunger clamps, but do not want any clamping force to be added by locking the shaft (for fear of an un-trained mechanic cracking the ceramic). I just want a mechanism to allow me to lock the shaft in place so it cannot move axially. Does anybody know of a product that is right for this application?

I thought about using threaded rod, but that would take more time than a shaft.

Thanks

RE: Shaft Locking Device

A design similar to a collapsible grappling hook, perhaps?

RE: Shaft Locking Device

One picture is worth a hundred useless replies. Please help us out with viduals.

RE: Shaft Locking Device

My reply may be silly, but it hurt my feelings that you called it useless.cry

RE: Shaft Locking Device

I though the OP described it quite well, in spite of no "viduals" .

It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.

RE: Shaft Locking Device

Tmoose - My reply just ended up being posted right after yours. My comments were directed at the original poster, not any repliers. Sorry.

And yeah ornerynorsk, I could improve my spelling ("viduals") when typing on my laptop literally on my lap at home, half asleep.

RE: Shaft Locking Device

Jboggs, LOL, you'll notice my spelling isn't so great, either.

I appreciate your help, I can't pick it with "tongs" as there is a lid component. I have decided to go threaded with handles and guides as I'd like to put some positive pressure on the sides as it is only a 1° half apex angle cone.
