Shaft Locking Device
Shaft Locking Device
(OP)
I am currently designing a lifting jig to lift a conical shaped piece of ceramic vertically. It will be lifted so that the small end is on top. The jig I am designing will be inserted through the small end, and then have shafts that extend to grip the ceramic. What I need to find is the clamping device for the shafts. I have looked at plunger clamps, but do not want any clamping force to be added by locking the shaft (for fear of an un-trained mechanic cracking the ceramic). I just want a mechanism to allow me to lock the shaft in place so it cannot move axially. Does anybody know of a product that is right for this application?
I thought about using threaded rod, but that would take more time than a shaft.
Thanks

It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.

How about 2 or 3 lifting tongs with curved, rubber lined jaws gripping the lip at 3 places.

And yeah ornerynorsk, I could improve my spelling ("viduals") when typing on my laptop literally on my lap at home, half asleep.
