L/D Factor for 3 way valves..

L/D Factor for 3 way valves..

L/D Factor for 3 way valves..

(OP)
sorry for a short question.. I'm struggling for a decent reference for the L/D for standard 3 way valves..

I normally use 1 eblow and a valve, which is conservative but on a recent calc I exceed 3% inlet line losses on an RV. So I'd prefer the calculations to show less than 3% so I dont need to argue why over 3% is ok, there are reasons why we cannot enlarge line size etc..

thanks in advance

James

RE: L/D Factor for 3 way valves..

There are many flavors of 3-way valves. Diverting, modulating, solenoid.... Contact the manufacturer about your particular valve and get it in writing.

There are probably just as many reasons why should not allow the smaller diameter piping. Especially this one. According to King's Pipeline Handbook, McGraw-Hill, a fully opened angle valve will have an equivalent length of 100 (6" diameter) to 200 (18") and 500 (30") pipe diameters.

Independent events are seldomly independent.

If you are designing that close to the edge then you must get the correct data from the valve manufacturer and not rely on generic guidelines.

I'm going to buy a rental unit at "The Edge". It seems to be a very popular place to go.
