stress convergence in areas of plastic strain

Newbie here in the realm of stress analysis... Is it valid to seek stress convergence in areas where plastic deformation is occurring? If so, are there any good guideline documents that anyone can point to?

RE: stress convergence in areas of plastic strain

if you are talking about working out if mesh is fine enough i would look at plastic strain before stress.

Can you explain why ? Not disagreeing just want to know. Thanks.

RE: stress convergence in areas of plastic strain

imagine perfectly plastic stress vs strain. the stress increase linearly to yield point and then becomes constant valued as defined. the stress can not go higher than this. so even a finer mesh will not shower higher stress.

where as the strain keeps increasing and is much more sensitive to mesh size.

that is the only way i can describe it

RE: stress convergence in areas of plastic strain

i assume you're running a non-linear FEA ?

i assumed he was but maybe it was an incorrect assumption on my part
