Break Dimension Lines

Break Dimension Lines

(OP)
I am missing something?? I have a drawing where the arrow on an Dimension line overlaps the Extension line of another dimension. I have the "Break dimension extension/leader lines" gap set and I have selected "Break only around Dimension Arrows", but the Extension line will not break. I checked the properties of that dimension and its on there. I followed the instructions per the Help Document:

"To break the dimension lines, select the dimension and click Break Lines in the PropertyManager. When you break dimension lines, they break around nearby lines. If you move a dimension significantly, it might not break around nearby lines. To update the display, clear Break Lines for the selected dimension and click Break Lines again."

Still the Extension line will not break? I have tested this in both 2012 and 2013... am I missing something or is this another one of those flaky Drawing features that works every time, 50% of the time?lol

RE: Break Dimension Lines

Scott,

How about a screenshot? Are the intersecting lines very close to an arrowhead? There might be an issue of having a minimum length of extension line from an arrowhead, but I am just speculating.

RE: Break Dimension Lines

It appears to be working OK for me with SW13-SP4, and I know it worked OK with SW12.

Double check the options in the Dimension Manager > Leaders > Break Lines section.
The gap can be adjusted there also.

Here is an image of the drawing, with the Dimension highlighted showing the Dim Properties as well as the System option settings for the same thing.

I tried changing the gap distance to .5 and nothing changed.

I just figured it out, but it makes no sense to me... the Option says "Break Dimension only around Arrows"... well there is an arrow that is over the extension line, it should be broke, one would think. I just turned that off and the gap distance appeared on the Extension line.

I think that option needs the name changed. "To make this work, deselect this option", or "On" might work.

RE: Break Dimension Lines

Turn off the Break only around dimension arrows option.

The leader line is probably on the edge of (or just off) the arrow & is confusing SW.

Actually its not, its close, but its clearly not.

RE: Break Dimension Lines

this functionality needs some work, just in case any Dassault folks are reading.
