Elevated steam trap

Elevated steam trap

My friends,

We would like to run a 350 psig steam line under a road which is basically level grade. It could be fully encased or in a bored sleeve with pits at each end, that is not yet decided.

I would like to have traps which are at grade. This means a line or syphon from the boot running up to the trap. What is the best trap type(s) and installation considerations.

Best wishes,
Sshep

RE: Elevated steam trap

With the traps at grade it´s no possible to drain the boot. It´s better to put the trap under the boot in a pit and discharge the condensate of the trap to the atmosphere.

Use TD Trap with syphon.

Hey Alfredo,

Thanks for reactivating this thread with an answer.

I am guessing TD=Thermodynamic. This sounds like a good trap to consider. I know it has to be theoretically possible to have an elevated trap since an orice trap and syphon would do it. I beleive the basic requirement is something that won't vapor lock, however the little research I did yielded very little discussion on the pitfalls of having an elevated line drain trap.

Any further advice or comment is welcome. My problem is still active.

best wishes,
Sean
