B31.1 Overpressure protection requirements

B31.1 Overpressure protection requirements

Hi all,

I have to design a system with 500psi design pressure and need some help on overpressure protection requirements.

Is there any compiled document which I can refer which provides all the requirements of B31.1 for overpressure protection.

Going through the code, I found information all over the place and that has become a bit confusing.

Any guidance will help a lot.

RE: B31.1 Overpressure protection requirements

No document that I know of. Do you have specific question about a part of the code?

I am not sure of what all sections to refer to, I want to make sure I dont overlook anyting.

Basically what are B31.1 requirements of overpressure protection.

RE: B31.1 Overpressure protection requirements

The relief valve requirements are somewhat flexible. 102.2.4 provides allowable time periods of overpressure operations, such as during relief valve events , pump dead head events , etc.

sect 122 provides guidelines for specific piping systems, such as main steam lines, etc. Par 122.8.1.d defines the required system design for combustible gas systems with no relief valves.

107.8 specifies releif valve sizing as per asme sect VIII div 1 requirements
